about
Out now on the Bad Vibrations imprint, 'Magic' is the debut single from Brisbane, Australia-based psych-pop artist Baby Cool (aka Grace Cuell, co-frontwoman of Nice Biscuit.) Arriving following recent tour dates with Babe Rainbow and The Lazy Eyes, Cuell says of the single:
"It’s difficult to think fondly of yourself when you’re caught in a loop of destructive habits. I wrote Magic as a way of kissing myself gently on the forehead during such times. Life seems to be an infinite cycle of remembering and forgetting, and with this comes a need to learn how to forgive yourself over and over again.”
The track softly lands into a Biscuit-esque groove from the off, before Cuell’s sublime vocals echo through a layered soundscape. Pulling the listener into the realm of Baby Cool for the first time, ‘Magic’ gently brushes through the genre of psych – combining fuzz-driven chorus’ with washed-out melodies that build into a bridge of kaleidoscopic vocal harmonies.
DAIISTAR is a lot of fun. I first heard them at Austin Psych Fest before Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. My husband and I were so impressed, so I made sure to remember the band name. Tracemaker is the song that got our attention as we were waiting for BRMC. I love the sound and vibe of DAIISTAR. Michelle May
